The unspoken message present in careworn items, smoothed and altered through years of human touch or trodden and shaped by a thousand footsteps is that, despite efforts to preserve and protect, time and the elements slowly stake their claim. Our human instinct is to replace or renew. Through this work, I challenge whether that is necessary. Should we instead allow things to remain as they are, embrace the ongoing changes, and value their wear as an emblem of their service and utility? In this effort, I attempt to elevate cast-off items, including fallen leaves and damaged decorative linens to illustrate the traces of beauty that exist in decay or loss. This idea serves as a poignant reminder that we, too, undergo inevitable, gradual change. It challenges us to show respect and deference to the endurance, faith, and steadfastness that accompany the aging process.
